Florida Power & Light Deploys 575,000 SELC Lighting Control Modules

SELC worked closely with Florida Power & Light to integrate lighting controls into their existing Itron IPv6 mesh network. This collaboration resulted in one of the largest lighting control deployments in North America.

FPL expects the remote monitoring and control capabilities of the system to significantly improve street light restoration response times and enhance the quality of service to its street light customers.

We wanted a proven technology to ensure an efficient upgrade to smart street lighting. The performance of the SELC smart lighting control is top-notch. It is highly reliable—even in challenging environments—and allowed us to pinpoint an outage and restore service quickly.
Joe Hancock, retired principal engineer for lighting at FPL

This is an important step in an ongoing effort to modernize and network FPL’s power delivery system, including the nearly 500,000 street lights FPL maintains throughout the company’s 35-county service area.

“Building this smart grid initiative, FPL is once again demonstrating its leadership in leveraging the most advanced technology ” said Pat Gayer, CEO, SELC. “We are proud to support FPL in its ongoing efforts to deliver even more benefits to its customers.”
